Just keep getting more enterprises in more towns until you have a passive income that can fund a good sized army and that'll be your stepping stone to becoming a lord.
Dyeworks are most expensive and pay best, ironworks are a good affordable alternative (3k IIRC compared to 10k). When you have cash (say 10k), go to a town and talk to the guild master to set up a productive enterprise. They drop expensive loot and you can take prisoners and sell them to ransom brokers in taverns. Raiding villages can be trouble, you should instead get some denars from tournaments as you've been doing but also farming sea raiders in the far north of the map. Don't bother with quests for too long, they're not nearly as important as in other games, you can ignore them entirely from start to end and not miss much.
